CHRISTOPHER C.P. SO
My name is Christopher So. I graduated in 1979 from Lincoln Institute of Victoria, the only physiotherapy school in Victoria. My first job was in the Royal Adelaide Hospital, the largest teaching hospital in Adelaide with 600 beds. I had a very solid foundation in general physiotherapy practice. I was working with very competent supervisors in General Medical & Surgical units; in Cardiothoracic units: ICU, CCU, Thoracic Surgery; in Neurological Rehabilitation: Northfield Rehabilitation Hospital then in Orthopaedic Outpatients. I developed my interest in Manipulative Therapy focusing in muscle and joint problems. Adelaide was the home of the late Sir Geoff Maitland who founded the Manipulative Therapy Association Australia, now called the Musculoskeletal Association of Australia. In 1980, I went back to Hong Kong and worked in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the biggest teaching hospital at that time. From 1981-82, I completed a diploma in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. I completed the Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Therapy in 1984 and in 1985-87, I taught in the postgraduate certificate manipulative therapy course in the physiotherapy school in Hong Kong. In the same period, I started my private clinic and served as the Public Relation Officer in Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association. I came back to Melbourne and started my clinic at home and worked part-time from 1988-1992 in the Nissan Motor Company’s Rehabilitation Centre as a physiotherapist and an Ergonomist. I completed the graduate diploma in Ergonomics in 1990. After working for more than 40 years, I semi-retired in 30/6/2019 and work part time. My experience will be a great help to your problems.
